Common Non-Blooming Shrubs Will Add Beauty and Dimension to Your Home!

By placing shrubs in your home landscape you will define the area more completely and add more dimensions throughout your flower beds. A shrub can provide increased interest in the area by providing a more substantive planting that can help bring out the beauty in the other plants around it. There are so many shrubs at every nursery that choosing one right for your yard can be very difficult. In this article, I will cover some of the easiest shrubs to grow that will add beauty and dimension to your home landscape!

One great shrub to plant throughout your landscape is the Dogwood. A Dogwood shrub grows in almost any spot, and is very easy to care for. Simple watering, mulching and an occasional trimming will keep a Dogwood bush growing healthily for years! There is an assortment of Dogwood varieties sold in many nurseries, but the most common Dogwood is the Red Twig Dogwood. This shrub is exceptionally beautiful in the winter when all the leaves have fallen and you can view the beautiful red color of the branches.

The Barberry families of shrubs are also stunning when placed in your home landscape. I particularly love the small round leaves. You can find a Barberry bush in a variety of colors, from red, to green to yellow. One of the most common Barberry shrubs is the Red Barberry. The foliage is a wonderful reddish purple color with small red berries in the fall. The Yellow Barberry is also an American household favorite. You do have to be careful with a Barberry shrub because of the small thorns on the branches.

Another wonderful shrub is the Burning Bush shrub. This is a simple bush with green foliage throughout the summer than changes into a beautiful deep red in the fall. As the leaves change color the transition is stunning as the leaves turn to a bright yellow, to a wonderful orange, and eventually into the deep red they are so famous for. A Burning Bush shrub can get fairly large, so plant them in a place where you can allow for the large growth to come. The love the sun, and are easy to care for.

Be sure to water your newly planted shrub every day for the first week, and then at least every 3 days for the next month. If the shrub root system is allowed to dry out, the entire plant will wilt very quickly. The stress the shrub endures from becoming wilted can leave it very susceptible to insect damage and disease.

There also are many other shrubs you can add to your landscape including flowering shrubs and evergreen shrubs. Almost all shrubs will have some form of blooms, but the above shrubs are noted for the beauty of their foliage and overall growth. Whichever shrub you choose to plant, your landscape will benefit from the added beauty and dimension each one brings!
