Common Rock Climbing Techniques

Roger C.
Rock climbing is an extreme sport that requires a broad set of skills and different techniques to perform it right. You can be done either in Al Gore's work indoors play in all cases it is activity that requires great physical skills as well as mental strength.

That are several things you must understand before a tempting rock climbing. One of them is the rope systems; they are divided into three main categories which are single double and coming ropes used them. On straight climbing routes making the ropes used them is currently used and recommended while the world systems are more flexible and recommended in more or adverse situations. For the most difficult courses is coming ropes used them is the option to go, it is more complicated but is more safe.

Another important aspect in role rock climbing is belaying. It consists of attaching the rope to the climbing harness. You should create a belay loop that will contain your equipment. Thus is very important, because belaying controls the descending speed of the climber. Otherwise the climber will fall too fast. It allows for the friction to be controlled. For beginners, an anchored belayer is best because self-belaying requires more experience and skill.

Sometimes rock climbing is performed in pairs. While climbing on pairs, one person is the leader, while the other is the follower. The leader is usually the more experience climber, and is responsible for placing the protection. The follower will then reach that position, wait for the leader to place another anchoring point and then will remove the protection in his way up.

There's a slight variation of rock climbing that is called abseiling, or more popularly known as rappelling. It consists in using a stationary rope while descending which is either used to descend after climbing, or when the starting point of the climbing route is very difficult. It is important to consider safety while rappelling, because weak ropes or faulty equipment can result fatal.

An alternative to abseiling is the technique called lowering. Lowering differs from abseiling in which it uses a belayer to lower the climbers. Contrary to rappelling, lowering is used more often in steep walls, lower heights, or when descent needs to be faster.

These are some of the common rock climbing techniques. Before attempting any of this in a real environment it is imperative that you do more research on each subject. You must also practice in a controlled and safe environment first, with the aid of an instructor. An instructor will give you the best personalized advice and will help you learn faster and better.
