Communication is Key to a Successful Business

The mantra in real estate is "location, location, location" and the mantra for running and expanding a quality business is "communication, communication, communication." It's always a sign that you're working with a good business when they stay in touch and are easy to get in touch with. On the opposite end, it's a really bad sign when you're working with a business that goes weeks with out ever checking in for a status update.

Communication is essential for life, but it's critical in business. Good communication means that your message, mission, and goals are sent and made clear so that the people and organizations you are working with understand your message entirely. If the message is communicated effectively, you are more likely to receive a positive response. However, if your message is poorly communicated and remains unclear, you are likely to receive an unfavorable response. It is not difficult to communicate an effective message, especially with e-mail and social networks. Even if you speak over the phone with the people you are working with, it always helps to send a follow up message or e-mail to be sure that your message is clear. Not to mention, written messages provide a permanent record of the message you want communicated.

Communication is important in getting the results you want whether from employees, partners, or businesses you outsource to. If the people you work with understand what your goals are for their part in your business and they recognize that you will follow up to be sure that you are getting the results you want, that provides incentive for them to do a good and thorough job. If you care about your business and you make that clear, so will the people you work with.

Let your employees, co-workers, partners and everyone else involved in business with you know your preferred method of communication and the best way to stay in touch with you. There is no need to over communicate if you do it effectively the first time. Communicate your message and stay updated with progress, don't go longer than a week with out checking in with the people you are doing business with. As long as you are communicating effectively, your business will continue to grow and succeed.
