There aren't many community colleges in the metro Detroit area. But, in surrounding areas such as Dearborn (Wayne County), and Warren (Macomb County) housing campuses for one institution - Detroit is the home of one of the most accredited community colleges.The largest institution provided by Detroit for community colleges is Wayne County Community College (WCCC), or WC3 as residents of the Motor City deem this community college; which has locations in all of the aforementioned areas, totaling in five campuses around metro Detroit and surrounding areas. A lifespan of more than 40 years, educating Michiganders, WCCC has been a milestone in the history of Detroit. Offering a vast variety of programs for higher learning, WCCC also includes a chance to study abroad. According to WCCC's website, "most of the students attend part time in one of 70 programs that offer a certificate or associate's degree; the most popular programs are in allied health and business."

Coming in second for metro Detroit residents, is Henry Ford Community College (HFCC). Located in Dearborn (suburb of metro Detroit), HFCC is known for their business and economic educational programs. According to the numbers, HFCC educates nearly 10,000 more students than WCCC, and has a tuition fee $100 less than WCCC. HFCC also offers students the chance to study abroad. Both WCCC and HFCC are educating students on a part-time basis. But not saying that they do not offer full-time schedules, most students prefer to take part-time schedules.

If you are looking to further your education only in the business industry, then Lewis College of Business in Detroit is the choice for you. But, I must inform you that the tuition for Lewis College of Business is a bit higher than the aforementioned institutions, and you will find yourself paying nearly $8,000+ for enrollment. A good aspect may be the size; LCB is only educating approximately 300 students looking to gain a business administration degree. A little bit of history about Lewis College of Business: it was founded by a black woman - Violet T. Lewis in 1928, and was designated by the US Secretary of Education as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in 1987.

Limitations of a community college are detailed as offering certificate and associate's degrees in programs over a time span of two years or less; generally open admission, and have no residential facilities for their students. Lastly, the programs offered at community colleges in metro Detroit are often provided on community-based needs.
