Driving onto campus you will notice a huge parking lot that seems superfluous but believe me in the morning every space is needed. Walking up from the well maintenanced walk ways you will approach a large clean building that stands out as the only structure with more than 2 floors on campus, that building is the library where in addition to great views you will also find the computer lab and the tutoring center.

Sierra Community College is one of the top academic community colleges in California and its football team also ranks highly in the state. Pell grants, fee waivers and EOPS are all available and located in the administrative building where you will also find the assessment center. Students who score high on the assessment test are encouraged to become tutors.

It's a little school but does hold some celebrity distinction as the site of the San Francisco 49ers training camp in the 90's because of the 49ers' need to have onsite sleeping facilities at their training location and the college is one of the few community colleges with dorms. The dorms are located just off the main campus near the police center.

The course range is well rounded supporting such fields as business, chemistry, mathematics, photography, art, physical education, computer classes, philosophy, theater and many more. The cafeteria food is, well, cafeteria food but the school isn't too far from fast food places and you can easily grab some chips before class.

The bookstore isn't anything pretty but you should be able to find what you need. The athletic department is even worse tucked away from everything in cheap portables. Football practices are run efficiently where practice doesn't drag on excessively. The cheerleaders are different from year to year but not really if you catch my drift.

One of the jewels of Sierra Community College is its theater. It's a full sized theater that seats a large crowd. They really made the theater something to be proud of and to fully take advantage of it they offer classes that consist of watching full length classic movies such as Taxi, and even silent Buster Keaton films that you can't ever find in theaters but also fulfill an elective requirement which really makes a case of why you should take one of these classes.

Overall Sierra College is a great community college with a competent faculty, some beautiful facilities, and a beautiful location.

I can't write this in the third person... I just can't. To do so would make me feel like a douche big enough to accommodate Madonna. My articles are a change of pace from what you can expect anywhere else. M...  View profile
