Community Day in Bessemer Pennsylvania

Every year, the town of Bessemer (In Pennsylvania) holds a community day party. Every year it is fun, fun, fun! Bessemer community day invites people from neighboring communities as well. It is usually hosted at the Bessemer fire hall and extends to Cow Licks, the Post Office and Police Station, Kennedy Park and sometimes even all the way to the Croatian Club. To help you understand what goes on at this particular celebration, I will give you a brief description of my experiences there last year.

Last year I went to community day, and it wasn't what I was expecting. It was better. At the fire hall, the DJ, my uncle, set up his equipment and played all of the most asked for songs in town. Several streets and roads were closed so as to allow the festivities. Along main street, many of the local businesses set up stands to sell and promote their product. These stands included local restaurants, bookstores, and more. Near the Post Office and Police Station as well as extending into Kennedy Park, was a car show. I'm not sure of the exact number but I believe that close to one hundred cars were entered, which is a nice number for a small town. Cow Licks, the local ice cream store, was sponsoring several fun events for the kids. There was a huge, inflatable slip and slide, which the kids could not stay off of. There was a dunk tank, where my cousin Ryan had a nasty accident. He fell into the water and hit his lip off of the board. About halfway through the day it started to rain. Several people who came pitched a huge tent and most of us went inside rather than go home. When we eventually did go home, we did not go home disappointed. It was a fun day.

This month, Bessemer is fixing up to the best community day ever! They have hired my Uncle to be the DJ once again. There will be Hawaiian Luau dancers and a large assortment of exotic foods. Cow Licks will be holding a contest in which the people give them their homemade ice cream recipes. One recipe will be chosen. This recipe will be added to their menu. There will be a car show once again and several fun activities for the kids. If you are at all interested, Bessemer welcomes other communities to join us. It is held in Bessemer, Pennsylvania on the twenty sixth of July.
