Jackson Park P-Patch
This is community garden of several volunteer community gardens in the Seattle area. The Jackson Park garden sits next to a golf course and overlooks Thorton Creek. It is over 14,000 square feet total in size which allows over 50 individual plots which are maintained by volunteers who give a minimum of hours of time. The garden is situated next to a stand of forest that houses coyotes, bald eagles and many other wild animals. There is a wait list for these community gardens that usually runs 1 - 1 ½ years and maintains a list of 40 potential community gardeners who would like to participate in the opportunity to actively participate in this volunteer go green project in their own neighborhood gardens.
Burke Gilman Gardens
This community garden is one of the community gardens that is involved through the P-Patch program. Burke Gilman garden is located off bus routes 74 and 75 and is on Mithum Place in Seattle. The garden was started in 1989 and is 3500 square feet total. Inside that 3500 square feet the community has made 30- 10x10 plots available to the people of the neighborhood for year round gardening. There is a wait list of over 40 people and they usually have to wait from 1-2 years to get a plot space. The garden is inside a housing development that many European immigrants move into and then are able to utilize any previous skill they may have in the way to go green and help nurture their neighborhood gardens.
Bradner Gardens Park
This garden park is one of the many community gardens located in and around Seattle. The Bradner Gardens are located off Bradner Place and consists of over 14,000 square feet of gardens. All of the garden is pesticide free and has a windmill, a water collections system as well as demonstration gardens. The stewards of this garden come from P-Patch as well as other local gardening societies. Bradner Gardens has 43 10x20 go green plots that are available to the local community for neighborhood gardens.
