CHICAGO (March 2008)-When it comes to health care, uninsured and underinsured women have an ally in Dr. Sandy Goldberg, founder of A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF). On April 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., ASLF will host a Community Outreach Health Fair at Washington High School, 3535 E. 114th Street in Chicago, and will pre-qualify underinsured women for no cost screening mammograms.

Supported by John Pope, Alderman of the 10th Ward, and ASLF, the health fair will also provide no cost health screenings, educational information and outreach services, breakout sessions, and a "day spa." The day spa will feature complimentary manicures, chair massages, haircuts, and skin care demonstrations. All services and educational brochures are offered in both Spanish and English. Area residents and families are encouraged to attend the fair to benefit from these services.

ASLF's Chicagoland Cancer Information Coalition is comprised of several major cancer advocacy organizations that provide information and education about cancer prevention, resource availability and treatment options. BUY A MOM A MAMMOGRAMâ„¢ provides access to and funds mammograms for women who cannot afford them. Since the program's inception in 2006, 1,000 women have received information about and access to screening mammograms in a timely and respectful fashion. Funding of follow-up diagnostic testing was added in April 2007.

Since A Silver Lining Foundation was launched in 2002 as a 501(c)3 charitable organization by Dr. Sandy Goldberg, the organization has provided more than 400,000 people with information about cancer resources, treatment options and support services. Through the organization's programs, services and personal support, the foundation strives to provide access to cancer related information and testing to medically underserved people in a warm and attentive manner. The organization strives to perpetuate the philosophy of Dr. Goldberg's late mother: "We are all family and we have to help each other through the tough times. There is, for everyone, a silver lining."
The Community Outreach Health Fair will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 at Washington High School, 3535 E. 114th Street in Chicago. No charge for attendance.
