Compact Cars: A Review of My Top Five

Bill Hanks
America still has a love for compact cars. They are economical and easy to handle and are especially great for individuals on fixed incomes. This article takes a look at five of the top compact cars on the road today. They are not listed in any particular order.

Toyota Prius
The Prius has been one of the best cars on the road the past three years and 2011 is no different. The Prius gets anywhere from 48 to 51 miles per gallon of gas. Prices on the vehicle range from $20,500 up to $28,400. Price depends on vehicle and it's extras. It carries a 3 year/ 36000 mile warranty and a 5 year/ 60,000 mile warranty on the Power Train.

Chevrolet Cruze
The beginning price on the Cruze starts at $16,275 and goes up to $22,000. It's gas mileage is 24 in the city and 36 for highway driving. It has an upscale interior design. It has large trunk space and has top safety scores. Extra options include Satellite radio, MP3 player, stability and action control. The ECO model can get you mpg of 28 and 42.

Honda Civic
The Civic offers technology, performance and value. Many rate this vehicle as the number one compact car on the road. The price of the Civic starts at $14,400 and goes up to $22,400. The Civic gets 24 miles to a gallon in the city and 36 on the highway. When it comes to options, there are many that you can order with this vehicle. This is what makes it one of the most sought after vehicles on the road.

Volkswagen Jetta
The 2011 Jetta gets 24 miles per gallon in the city and as high as 42 on the highway. Prices start at $14,900 and goes as high as $25,200. There are four different types of Jetta. They are the S, SE, SEL and TDI (which is a clean diesel). Options include a four speaker sound system, leatherette seats, one touch power windows, RNS navigation system and heated front seats just to mention a few.

Kia Soul
The Soul looks more like a miniature station wagon. Starting prices begin at $13,300 and go up to $18,500. They get 24 mpg in the city and up to 31 on the highway. It has a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. You can also build the car to your needs. You can select your trim, exterior paint, (interior paint is black), floor mats, side repeater lamp and restraint and safety features. You can also select your seat material, sound system, key-less entry, power locks and windows and tilt steering just to mention a few.

These are my top five compact cars on the road today. They are not the only ones. There are other compact cars. Have the fun of selecting a vehicle is shopping for what you want.

My image of "compact" car has changed since I moved to Europe. I used to think of my 2002 Beetle as a compact. Over here, that is a standard-sized 2-door hatchback.
