Company Being Sued by Man's Long-lasting Erection
Christopher Woods Claims Health Drink Boost Plus Hospitalized Him
The lawsuit was filed on Monday by Woods. Woods claims that he purchased the beverage at a drugstore on June 5, 2004. After drinking it, he says he woke up in the morning with, quote, "an erection that would not subside", according to the Associated Press.
He had to seek out treatment at the hospital later on in the day. The condition is known as severe priapism. The lawsuit then states that Woods, who is 29 years old, had to undergo surgery for implantation of a Winter shunt, which is a device that moves blood from one area in the body to another.
The lawsuit goes on to say that Woods had later problems that have caused even additional hospital visits. He has also undergone penile artery embolization, which is a way of closing blood vessels. When you close off blood flow it prevents engorgement and lessens the likelihood of an erection.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and names Novartis Consumer Health Inc. as a defendant. Brandi Robinson, who is a spokeswoman for the company, said on Tuesday that the company was notified of the lawsuit but will not comment on the pending litigation, according to the Associated Press.
Woods lawyer did not return telephone calls asking for comment that were made on Tuesday.
Novartis Boost Plus website gives the description of this drink as "a great tasting, high calorie, nutritionally complete oral supplement for people who require extra energy and protein in a limited volume,"and is available in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.
