Compaq Presario 2500 Laptop

Advantages: Very powerful, easy to use, Fast processor, quick and efficient, designed for windows XP, shock proof (?), high technology, good gaming laptop
Disadvantages: battery runs down fast and heavy (3.5 kg)

I bought this laptop about 4 years ago so you would think it would be outdated now, but it really isn't that bad. Some of its stats are still higher than what you find in today's middle price ranged laptops.

I found the compaq presario 2500 to be a great computer. I have used it every day and it is as good as new today. It is easy to use fast. It is also very easy to install new software onto.

I like to play games which can easily be played because it comes with 512Mb RAM which should be enough for use in almost anything you would need to do on a laptop. A bigger plus is its speed which with a Pentium 4 Processor at 2.30 GHz, this is very fast and powerful. A lot of laptops you buy today don't even have 2GHz, so it is still in the top of the line in power.

It comes with 40Gb of hard disk space and the screen is 15". It has a digital flat panel display screen with XGA technology so that the screen appears clear at almost any angle.

Firewire, USB, Infra-red, these are the available ways to connect with other devices. There are 3 USB ports, and internal infra-red. There is also a firewire port for connections with cameras. Although there is no bluetooth, there is a port where a bluetooth card can be bought and installed.

There is no floppy drive available in this laptop. However, it does have a DVD/CD-RW drive so you really don't need a floppy. Instead of saving your stuff on floppies, you can saved direct to cds.

The shape and design of the laptop is very cool, but it is a bit too thick. This is probably because it is SHOCK PROOF. I have known people who have dropped their Compaq laptop and never had a problem. I dropped mine and 2 weeks later, I had to replace my hard drive. I have no idea if my HD crashed because of dropping it or just a coincidence. I've been told that having to replace a HD is very rare in a Compaq.

Ok, there are a few negative points, but all in all it is a good Notebook.

The fan in the notebook is a bit louder than most laptops. When it heats up, as it does because of all the processing power, the fan steps up into higher and higher gears which are progressively louder.

All that power must lead to something, weight. The laptop needs a rather large processor to make it so powerful, which is why the laptop is so heavy. (3.5 kg)

To provide that much power, the battery is used up VERY quickly. A new battery lasts about of 2 hours. Most laptop batteries lasts 8 hours. So if you travel alot, then get more batteries.

So if you are thinking about buying a good laptop with a good value for money, then get the Presario 2500.
