Comparing and Contrasting: Ethical Codes and Morality

In regards to dictating or discerning the right and wrong of a situation there is usually a blur, a rather justifiable one, when it comes to figuring out the difference between Ethical Codes and Morality. It's true, they are quite similar when you look at them. So lets take a look at each one, their similarities and their differences.

Ethical Codes
In the dictionary an ethical code is described as "the rules or standards governing the conduct of people or the members of a profession" An ethical code governs how people should behave. Setting out organized standards of what ought and ought not to be done over a society or group.

The role Ethical Codes play in the determination of right in wrong is that they dictate what a society (nation or group) views as such. It dictates an overarching and general viewpoint to be imposed upon the working of wrong and right.

Morality
In the dictionary morality is described as "concern with the distinction between good and evil or right and wrong; right or good conduct; motivation based on ideas of right and wrong" Morality governs how a person behaves. It sets out distinctions and shades in an organic sense that defines right and wrong.

The role Morality plays in the determination of right and wrong is that it dictates what an individual feels to be as such. It establishes a set of organic rules of varying complexity within an individuals mind that are often interpretation

Comparing: Ethical Codesand Morality
Ethical Codes and Morality both provide a framework with which to determine right from wrong. Both are centered around guiding a person or people towards behaving in a way beneficial to society that is "right" in the sense of being Moral and and a "correct" way to behave.

Contrasting: Morality and Ethical Codes
Morality and Ethical Codes may both provide a framework for determining right and wrong but there is something inherently different both in the way in which they do this and the scale. Morality provides an individuals organic reflection of their views on right and wrong while Ethical codes provide the structured and balanced rules of a group or society that establish right and wrong, what aught and aught not to be done.
