Comparing Hair Conditioners

How Many Hair Conditioners Do You Have and How Different Are They

Susan Antonelli
If you've strolled through the aisles of hair product in any supermarket or drugstore you've seen the endless bottles and packets ofhair onditioners to choose from. Every beauty line seems to have a hair product line and every hair product line has its special conditioners, usually several varieties. Then check you locla beauty parlor and you're presented with even more choices that are sold to each specific hair salon. Most hair salon will only carry a few. Now think about your Beauty Supply Store and you have the endless selection of salon use only product. Lastly look in your own linen closet or bathroom cabinets and chek out how many hair conditioning products you've accumulated. Quite a few I imagine. I know personally I have dozens.

When picking out a hair conditioner you have to consider your hair type. I have thin dry hair and I'm in strong sun quite a bit which doesn't help. I do not use hair dye. I have a family with a genetic predisposition to female pattern balding. Luckily, even though this hit my Mother, Aunt and Grandmother I still have hair. Whenever my sister or daughter have a bad hair day I remind them "At least we still have hair". I believe some of the hair loss was also aggravated by use of very strong hair dye. Whatever type of hair you have it's important to maintain healthy hair by eating correctly and avoiding over processing.

Weather and conditions in your house and lifestyle will affect your hair. Hot, windy beach days are tough on hair just as cold, dry weather can be damaging. The conditions in your home, too much heat in the winter, dry heat, can really damage your hair. The type of water you have makes a difference. I have well water, very hard water. This also, is damaging to hair. When you go to the beach or spend a lot of time in the sun wear a hat or scarf and or run some sunscreen into your hair as well. There are products over the counter for hair specifically to help avoid sun damaged hair. In the winter, skiing for instance or just spending time outdoors keep a hat on.

Using a curling iron or hair drye will also affect your hair conditoin. You can be overdrying your hair. Rinse you hair with cool water after washing the shampoo and conditioners out This will smooth the cuticle. Try using your hair dryer set on medium or low and keep it a good distance from your hair when drying. It's also a good idea to air dry your hair totally once in a awhile to give it a break or let it air dry partially and then take a hair dryer to it.

Three products I use are Sebastian Sheen sun reflector instant conditioner , Redmond Australian 3 minute Miracle Hair Reconstructor Conditioner and Aveda Curessence Instant Repair Treatment for Damaged Hair. When I first looked at the three and read the ingredients I noticed all of them had some basic similar ingredients. Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Hydrolized Animal or Methyl Protein, Methyl Paraben Propyl Paraben and assorted coloring agents. Then they part ways.

Sebastian offers Safflower Oil and Quaternium 18. It is acid balanced and offers reflective agents so each hair is coated to produce shine.

Redmond products are from Australia and is a fmily owned company. Australian 3 Minute Miracle is a reconstructor, It offers milk protein, Balm Mint, Hops,Mistletoe, Yarrow, Milk Protein, Yeast, Oat Flour and extract of Fennel. This product is excellent if you have been using hair dye or have damaged hair due to perms or long term coloring. This product offers more ingredients to help your hair than any other product offered in the beauty industry. It does not test on animals. It contains no wax. Wax works negatively on hair by creating buld up.Redmond is sold in Beauty Supply Stores.

Aveda Curessence boasts the art and science of Flower and Plant extracts and it's an intensive treatment It claims to surpass regular conditoining and actually rebuild hair. It bonds with the damaged hair. The hair protein it contains is positively charged so it's attracted to hair. It will provide restructuring without build up. It contains a sealant. Dry brittle hair under a microscope will show little edges of the hair follicle standing up, this product will smooth the hair follicle. A smooth follicle is what gives shine and reflection. Aveda contains Quaternized KeratinProtein (Quat H-K). This is combined with flower base and plant essences. Aveda contains Rosemary, Peppermint,Lavender, Beet Sugar and Coconut. Aveda is not sold in any drugstores, supermarkets or other retailers. It's only sold in Salons and it recycles it's bottles..

Each of these brands are chemically designed to work with their line of shampoos, rinses, and hair sprays. All companies be it make up, hair product plan their products to work with one another. I tend to cross the lines both in make up and hair product. Each of these products is meant to be applied to clean, washed hair and left on for 1-3 minutes, 2 minutes being the average time recommended.

These three products work well for my hair but deciding on a hair product is a very personal thing and you have to consider your hair type, your lifestyle and then use the trial and error method.

Never know whether to trust half of these product claims, but I do agree with your conclusion that you need trial and error.
