Comparing the Super Bowl Quarterbacks

Official prices for the Super bowl this year in Dallas started at around $800. That's what the tickets say, not what you get it for. They are also selling $200 tickets to stand outside the stadium and watch on a giant screen. The weather in Dallas has been miserable all week, although it should improve considerably by kickoff Sunday. The snow is due to end today and Sunday it should be back in the high 40's - no big deal for the fans from Pittsburgh and Green Bay. This will be warm for them.

Anyway, many of us could have predicted the Pittsburgh Steelers to get to the Super Bowl - they've had a solid team for years, based around a tough aggressive defense. They are always a fun team to watch. Green Bay, on the other hand, was the last team in on the NFC side. They had to win 3 playoff games on the road to make it to Dallas - at Philadelphia, at Atlanta, and at Chicago. That's pretty impressive. And those weren't close nail biter games - they were clearly the better team in each game.

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is in his 3rd season as the starter for Green Bay after serving 3 years as Favre's backup. His success has been a great story after not even being recruited for division 1 schools out of high school. He has been amazingly consistent in all 3 seasons as the starter. This season he has completed 65.7% of his passes for 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. It'll be interesting to see how Pittsburgh's defense led by strong safety Troy Polamalu goes about stopping the Packers offensive attach.

On the other side of the ball, Ben Roethlisberger has come on strong since missing the first 4 games due to suspension for his off the field activities last spring. He is another guy who didn't get much attention in college at Miami Ohio but has really made a name for himself in 7 years as the Steelers' starter. In that time the Steelers have won 2 Super Bowls so they definitely have the experience edge over the Packers.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to watching a good game from my living room, being glad I am there rather than out in the frigid weather.
