There are three main magazines for teenage girls; Cosmo Girl, Teen Vogue and Seventeen. Each of these magazines is different from its counterparts, which can make it easier to decide which of the three you would enjoy or you would feel comfortable with your daughter reading.
Cosmo Girl is the little sister version of Cosmopolitan magazine. Cosmopolitan is one of the racier women's magazines, yet Cosmo Girl is only slightly and sometimes not at all more candid than the other popular magazines for teen girls. Cosmo girl has sections about fashion; make up, relationships, health, exercise, celebrities and real life stories. The health section sometimes contains sex related articles or question and answers related to sex. Cosmo Girl is a very well rounded magazine that often has articles related to women's health and issues that common to many teenagers.
Teen Vogue is mostly fashion information. The articles in this magazine are short and are much less serious then those published in other teen magazines. Teen Vogues fashion, make up and hair tips are very runway fashion, where as the other magazines present information that is more common and popular with the majority of teens.
Seventeen is the most well-known and widely read teen magazine. The articles in this magazine are well rounded and are focused on topics that are important to teenage girls. The articles in Seventeen are often related to the issues that are common in schools and are affecting America's teens on a daily basis. Seventeen also occasionally has articles about sex and women's health related issues.
All of these magazines contain ads and product descriptions. They also have horoscopes and free monthly give-a-ways. Since Seventeen and Cosmo Girl are very similar and Teen Vogue is also kind of similar then a parent may want to consider other options to regulate what their daughter is reading other than just which magazine they have a subscription. Parents might also want to read or at least flip through each magazine before they give them to their daughter and remove the articles that they do not want their daughter to read. It is also important to consider that the information in these magazines is designed for teens to read and their fore can be very beneficial to young girls and can also answer some of the questions they have but are afraid to ask.
