Compassionate?

Brendan W Vittum
This is another piece in the Death Cycle for my Mother. It is one of only two poems in the series not written after her passing, but about six weeks beforehand when she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. We all react to such events with different thought processes. Those process even are in a state of flux - mine certainly were. You can see that at the time of composition there was a little bitterness in me.

Compassionate?

There are many
Kinds of love
Which my life
Would be the richer
For processing.

The caress
Of a gentle lover
At day's end.

The tender
Tolerance
Of a loving parent
When I err.

Even the spiteful
Love of an
Enemy which
Teaches
Patience and understanding.

But the love
Of a compassionate
God?

It will kill us all.
