Compassionate Pug Rescue (CPR) reports that as of the last 12 days of August, 15 new rescues were brought in. Ten were not spayed or neutered, one needed surgery to remove embedded nails from his paw pads, one had cherry eye and possible kidney disease, and all needed to be vetted.
"Some had hookworms, were tick infested, had hot spots, skin conditions, infected eyes and ears, and one was heartworm positive," reports a bulletin from the group's Facebook page. "We got a mother and two puppies that were so badly tick infested that one puppy did not survive the first night. Thankfully, mother Faith and baby Peanut are recovering well now."
There are two pugs needing eye surgery and one needing knee surgery.
"If you can name the condition, we can name a new pug with it," states the email. "Never had we had so many rescues needing so many surgeries and treatment at once."
On Sept. 8 CPR received two more, one suffering from seizures and on Sept. 9 the agency received a pug from Animal Control that has pigmented corneas, a skin condition, and kennel cough.
"And there are still more owner surrenders waiting to come in," the release states. "So many needing so much is taking a serious financial toll on us. We need donations."
No amount is too small and any amount is greatly appreciated, the Facebook group's administrator states.

In unrelated pet news, Narik, a one-ear-old Siberian Huskey who has been chained since he was a pup, is up for adoption.
"When I first brought Narik into my home, he bounced off the walls," said Shannon Allen, representative of Dogs Deserve Better of New River Valley, VA. "My husband and I worked very hard with Narik and he was very willing to learn."
Unfortunately Narik has been adopted twice and has been returned.
"We love Huskies and have been owned by at least one Husky for the last 15 years," said Allen. "We were the first humans to show him (Narik) attention, love, and indoor living off the chain."
