In unrelated animal news, the Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) was urging citizens to sign an online petition to convince the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to postpone roundups of wild horses.

"Horse advocate Madeleine Pickens' non-profit organization, Saving Americans Mustangs had a proposal to help wild horses and save taxpayer dollars," states a press release.

Despite overwhelming support, it was announced Jan. 25th that the BLM rejected Pickens' proposal and threatened budget cuts.

However, the HSUS says the story is not over.

In other animal news, you can help protect tigers from the wildlife trade by adding your name to a petition at http://www.therainforestsite.com/clickToGive/campaign.faces?siteId=4&campaign=TigerPledge&ThirdPartyClicks=ETE_011311_TigerPledge_F.

Wild tigers once numbered around 100,000 across Asia but today that number has dwindled to fewer than 3,500, according to a statement from the Greater Good Network.

The Animal Rescue Site is sponsoring a New Beginnings Story Contest.
