Things don't always work out the ways you want. You test your concept, analyze, plan, project, design, implement and start perfectly but still fail at some point. How you take your failures will have more importance than the actual failures themselves.
Besides many failures, I have been visibly successful as well. Because of the overwhelming success, many times I felt some sort of complacency grooming inside me. There have been times in the past that complacency almost ruined my life. I had achieved significantly more than I ever dreamed of. But I knew about it myself and I even talked to colleagues about this. I knew, I had to learn the hard way to be a better coach for myself. I learned, complacency is much more dangerous and harmful than failure. Read my previous blog post on Inner Quest.
Complacency is stagnation and procrastination. Failure, you can learn from and use for further improvement whereas complacency shields you to see it as a mistake (even though it is). Failure is the progress but complacency is lack thereof. If you are complacent, you stop inventing, you stop exploration, you stop dreaming. You just just enjoy with what you currently have. Complacency may pull you back in competition. You only see yourself, nobody else around. You even don't feel, others have already left you far behind, leaving you with yourself just to enjoy your past.
Most of the people sit back and victimize themselves when they fail. Its the most vulnerable period that other people may walk over you. If you don't collect yourself tightening up and pushing yourself at the front, you are giving space to others to play over you for sure. You must get out Try to understand the situation and start planning to overcome the situation. Look out the options. Look inside yourself. Accept the mistakes you did. Once you are position to accept your mistakes, you have actually won. I also agree, to become successful you have to be competitive by any means, you also have to be stubborn and ignorant to some extent too! Be stubborn and ignorant to win. Go with the wave, stand out from the crowd and be heard, extend your network with the best and try to have utmost fun along the way. This has helped me to face any situation I live through.
So beware of complacency!
