Obama, Huckabee win Iowa Caucuses
Barak Obama and Mike Huckabee have won their respective caucuses in Iowa. Obama, of course, has won for the democratic party while Huckabee has won for the republican party.
Barak Obama pulled in about 38% of the vote according to CNN while fellow democrats John Edwards (30%), Hillary Clinton (29%) and Bill Richardson (2%) fell well short of the junior senator.
Mike Huckabee also won by a large margin, beating his closest challenger, Mitt Romney, by 9 percentage points. Huckabee grabbed 34%, Romney 25%, McCain 13%, Thompson 13%, Paul 10% and Guiliani 4%.
Romney puts positive spin on loss
Despite losing to Mike Huckabee by almost double-digits on Thursday, Mitt Romney was still trying to put a positive spin on his loss. Romney says that his comeback from nearly 2- points down as little as two weeks ago shows that he is gaining on Huckabee in the national polls and that he still has a chance to win in New Hampshire.
Romney spent nearly $7 million in Iowa.
Guiliani feels confident
Guiliani pulled in only 4% of the caucus vote in Iowa on Thursday, but that is because he only spent a small amount of effort campaigning in the state. Guiliani is looking past Iowa and New Hampshire to other primary states which hold their votes in February.
In an interview on CNN, Guiliani said that he is confident in his strategy to skip certain states and consolidate his resources elsewhere. He also said that Florida was the key state for him.
Richardson in "Final Four"
Despite getting only 2% of the democratic caucus vote on Thursday, Bill Richardson has seen some of the silver lining. With Dodd and Biden dropping out of the race, Richardson has issued a statement congratulating his staff for making the 'final four' of the democratic primary race. Richardson still intends to run in New Hampshire.
McCain, Romney neck and neck in New Hampshire
According to recent polls in multiple media outlets, John McCain and Mitt Romney are still running very close in New Hampshire. According to many polls McCain and Romney are polling the same percentages.
Dodd, Biden withdraw from race
Senators Dodd and Biden have both withdrawn from the democratic presidential race after disappointing showings in Iowa.
