Complex Simplicity II

Complex Simplicity II

I came out of the darkness
to you in my soul's
nakedness
after bathing
in the long flames of self
and silence.

Now, lying
on this narrow bed
twitching,
softly seeking sleeps
that will not come,
I consider
our correspondences.

My hands
carried the burnt offerings;
proffering flayed hearts
written in the word
which you inspected
in each minute detail,
breathing life into dead gifts
with each touch.

Your letters
run through my thoughts
while unseen shadows
gather in the corners and shapes
take form of pains, humors.

Yet when seen by my eye
all things vanish -
only the voice is left
relating your written tale
of past years.

I should sleep now, moved
by rage of things suspected,
soothed by the chuckles, I fidget -
no desire to protect, cannot
in any case. Leaving Simplicity
to become Complex
contemplations and nothing
is complex.

Leaving me
to hold,
to listen,
to never touch.
