Computer Companies Beware: Gateway is on the Rise!

Customer Service Reaches a New Level

Now, with class action suits as prevelant as sliced cheese in todays time, being a consumer is harder than the nine to five...

You, as a consumer, have more to worry about with the good you purchase with YOUR money, than a police officer in New Orleans has to worry about. Companies have figured out that "right" is not cool, and "wrong" is quite profitable. Take Dell for instance...class action suits because these people REFUSE to set up a good customer service program, they also REFUSE to put the right parts in the computers YOU purchase. Now, although these are heavy allegations, and allegations none the less, they are still enough to sway the average buyer.

I purchased a Gateway, (which also owns Emachines) several months ago. My mother purchased a Gateway more than a year ago, and my dad purchased one maybe 4 months before i made my purchase. The computer wasnt overpriced, was easy to upgrade at a later time and only gave me minimal problems thusfar, as have the other two laptops that I mentioned have done. Now, I had a few pixel issues with my screen and decided to call gateway with some requests for assistance...easy.

I called with the mindset of the usual "run-around" i recieve from T-Mobile (later publication), but was PLEASANTLY surprised at the ease of the help i recieved. Not once was I caught in the insinuation that I was lying about the problem, not once did I have the feeling that i wasnt going to be helped. There was a simple process the rep had me go through, and when that process didnt help, she said, " we will send you a box so you can have it shipped in" Now, in my head, I felt as though the box was going to take the full 2 weeks that she mentioned it would take to get to my house. The next morning, the box beat me to my morning ritual in the bathroom of brushing my teeth and cleaning my face. Crazy???

So at this point I am smiling and realize, Gateway means some sort of business...AMAZING. But before I get too excited, I realize that this is the beginning of the ordeal. So I packaged the computer and dropped off at DHL and waited for the story to unravel...

Maybe a week later, I remembered that my laptop was GONE. So i decided to call. The rep this time was quite helpful all over again. I gave him my info and he asked me to hold on while he checked on the status. I held for maybe 3 minutes and then he got back on the line and said " sir your computer was shipped already, let me find the tracking info on the DHL website for you". So, as he is borwsing the internet for the information, he runs into my info and tells me that the package was slated to be delivered on that day, so in the midst of this conversation, I hear a knock at the door. So of course I ask him to hold on while I answer the door and of course, it is DHL with my computer, BEFORE ten in the morning. So we all laugh and i sign off on the package and tell the guy thanks, he asked if i had anymore questions and that was it....can we all say, amazing....

So, i say all this to point out, that Gateway is out to give some of these other companies a run for their money, and they definately have my vote. Painless transaction, no out of pocket expenses, no disputes as to whos fault it was that MY computer was not working....just easy operation.

So next time you are shopping for a computer, think about the day something goes wrong with it, and who much trouble you are going to have to go through to get it fixed....Gateway may make it easier for you.

lol, hope this doesnt sound like a commercial....

Just to let you know, Gateway was recently acquired by Micron. We have been buying Gateways for years at the school district I work at and have been a little disappointed since the switch. But time will tell.
