Computer Components: RAM

The Informer
The different components in a computer are 1 of 2 factors you'll look at in buying a computer. So with this article, we'll review the RAM of a computer, and why you want high amounts, depending on what you'll be doing with you're new computer. If you're looking to buy a computer, I'm sure that after reading this you'll be more aware of what to look for in the computer that's right for you.

RAM is usually the first thing someone looks at, but it's not the most important. RAM stands for Random Access Memory. RAM is used when you need to store little bits of data when running a program. If you're in Paint, for example, between when you open it up and when you first save your image, the image is stored in RAM. Same with when you're editing something. If you're editing a video clip into a movie in Windows Movie Maker, if the file gets bigger, until you save again, the difference between the current saved file, and what you are currently working with, is stored in RAM.

If all you do with you're computer is check email, and write documents, 512 MB of RAM should be fine. If you are non the internet a lot, and are downloading items, you have lots of good programs on you're computer, and use power point and Excel, then you should go for 1 GB of RAM. For Video Editing, Photoshop programs, and very high quality games and programs, go for the 2 GB of ram. You can also go to a nice 4 GB, but it's really necessary. It'll Just make you're computer almost never freeze up. With a MAC computer, you can get a Mind-Blowing 16 GB of RAM; that's almost like a small Hard Drive. The only reason you'd need such high amounts of Random Access Memory would be if you're going to be doing high-intensity calculations, and/or running many, many high quality programs. I definitely would suggest to not get so much unless you ABSOLUTELY need it, considering it costs thousands, and thousands of dollars.

So you cam see that a high RAM would be very important if you'll be doing a lot of things with you're computer. So tune to my CP page for more Components articles, coming up soon! I hope that this RAM article ahs helped you understand it's importance in a computer.
