Computer Glasses in 40+ Workers

Computer Bifocal Glasses to Solve Problem

S. A. Knight
Twenty years ago the need for special glasses in the workplace was not very common except in secretary's who used word processors. The common use of computers in the workplace has changed all that.

Several times a week, I see patients who have a problem using the computer comfortably.

The problem is the computer in most work environments is about arms length or maybe 18 to 22 inches away or farther. The reading glasses of these individuals focus in at maybe 12 to 16 inches at most leaving the computer screen out of range for clear focus.

Some people sit and look at computer screens constantly for 8 hours solid. The solution for these people can simply be computer glasses which are half the strength of their regular reading glasses. So if you use +2.00 readers, then get a pair of +1.00 readers and you should be able to comfortably work at your computer screen.

More complicates is the person who has to look at the computer and then down at reading or writing material at their normal reading distance. The solution to this problem that I commonly prescribe is a pair of bifocals custom made for computer work. The top part of these computer glasses contain the mid range prescription that brings the computer into focus when they are sitting looking straight -ahead at the screen. This eliminates the "neck crick" brought on by having to tilt the head back and move forward closer to see through regular bifocal segment of your glasses. The bifocal segment of the computer bifocals that I prescribe contains an add that brings the power through the bifocal to that needed for the patient's normal reading distance.

This makes it very comfortable to work at the computer by naturally looking straight on at the computer and then looking down through the bifocal at paperwork on your desk.

So tell your eye doctor you want some computer bifocals and you will be very happy and more relaxed at the end of your work day.
