Computer Speakers: Do You Need Them?

Stable Guy
Many people using computers usually are okay with the computer speakers that the computer came with. These speakers are built-in and are of poor quality, especially on laptops, and may prevent the avid user from enjoying the nuances of sound and music the computer can produce. So you might want to go in for that special pair of professional computer speakers.

The price range of a good pair of computer speakers varies as widely as the price of a pair of headphones to that of another computer itself. It is therefore highly advisable for you to be sure of what is your money's worth, which is where this article may be of help.

The most important spec that you need to look for when buying new computer speakers is their maximum power output, measured in watts. It tells you how good the speakers will sound at different volumes - most speakers sound good at lower volumes, but only ones with very high maximum power output will produce good sound at high volumes. If you plan to use a higher volume, you would need more speaker output power.

Another important factor is whether the speakers can produce 5-speaker or 7-speaker surround sound, a big difference from 2-speaker systems. You can also check if the speakers come with a subwoofer, a special loudspeaker for bass that allows you to hear the beat of the music better. A subwoofer may be bulky and unsuitable as it may not fit well with your existing computer setup.

If you use your computer often for gaming and playing music, it could be worth spending your money on specialized speakers. It's also good to know that 'computer' speakers can also be used for other appliances such as gaming consoles, televisions and mp3 players with a little diligent wiring. If you already have a good working pair of speakers, you can also connect them to your computer setup and derive some good quality sound that way.
