You also don't get the overall curls that heated curlers provide without a lot of work. With a curling you have to go around and curl every single piece applying high heat to every piece of hair. This is true for me because my hair texture is about 3B with a texturizer. And even with a relaxer heated curlers just provide less damage. I enjoy using heated curlers and find them easier. You just put the curlers in your hair once hot and let them sit in your hair until cool for about 1/2 hour. The heat is gentle and consistent.
You can use a mousse to add hold to the hair. You can also add a layer of hairspray after you finish rolling up the hair for additional hold and shine. You don't have to use mousse but if you do it will provide a tighter and more secure curl. Remember to use mousse without alchohol to prevent drying. Do not however use gel or setting lotion with heated curlers. Your hair will not dry at all. These products are meant for use with blowdriers or hooded hair dryers. They can also be used when allowing your hair to air dry on venilated curlers or with wash and wear styles.
One great thing to note about the Conair Instant Heat Travel Rollers is that it's price is affordable to most budgets. I purchased mine from my neighborhood drugstore which was CVS at the time for under $15. I believe it was around $11-$13. There are 12 curlers in the package 4 small and 8 big. The big curlers are on the smaller size because the curlers are travel sized. So if you have longer hair; you may want to only roll the hair 1/3 - 1/2 way up the hair shaft to retain the look of length.
I find these curlers to be not too hot; but just hot enough. Heated curlers are gentler overall and provide a more secure and long lasting curl. Another bonus with heated curlers over curling irons is that you cannot use setting products with curling irons.
If this is your first set of heated curlers; this is a great set. I've had mine for almost 2 years each time I've had it. The only reason I replaced them is because I lost the first set in traveling.
