Conan on Fox? Rumors Have Fox Buying Up Conan Properties

Some Recent Purchases by the Fox Network Might Foreshadow Conan O'Brien at Fox

Conan on Fox may be more than just a rumor as Fox buys up Conan properties. One of the items Fox bought was a Conan on Fox web site (www.conanonfox.com) where they could plant the comedian if he comes over to the network in the near future. If you head over to the new Conan on Fox web site, you will also be linked to a new Twitter account for Conan O'Brien, something that could also become quite valuable should Fox and O'Brien agree to a contract when he officially leaves NBC at the end of the week. Maybe this is indeed setting up a union between Fox and O'Brien, but it could happen for other reasons as well.

The reason to not jump overboard with anticipation about Conan O'Brien hosting a show on Fox right away is that all of these rumors are just circumstantial at this time. There has been no official contract offer from Fox, Conan O'Brien hasn't mentioned yet that he wants to go to Fox, and until we see the official signed contract between Conan O'Brien and NBC, then he is still an employee of NBC. NBC had been trying to finalize a deal that would allow Conan O'Brien to leave the network, but there could also be some important details we don't know about yet. One of those details could be an option that keeps Conan O'Brien off the air for a certain amount of time before he can start working for a competitor. That is something that is often in television contracts, and wouldn't prove to be a surprise.

The other reason not to get too excited about all of the 'Conan on Fox' purchases and ideas is that Fox could just be protecting itself and helping set up a future union. One thing Fox does not want to have happen, is for someone else to gain control of the domain names and Twitter names that correlate O'Brien to Fox, because then it could be open season on the internet. It's not often expensive to purchase a domain name, and by throwing a few dollars at it, Fox can help protect themselves on both a potential web site and the Twitter account. Still, it is exciting to think that Fox could finally jump into the late night game again, and put Conan O'Brien up against David Letterman and Jay Leno.
