Conan O'Brien Leaves The Tonight Show: Are You with CoCo?

Taking Sides - Fans Peg Their Flag with Either Leno or O'Brien

It's official - Conan O'Brien, affectionately named CoCo by his fans, is leaving the Tonight Show. NBC has offered the quirky, ginger-haired star $44 million dollars to depart. Lamentably, he's accepted. If you're a Leno fan, however; you'll be happy to know that Jay will be returning to host the show that he previously hosted for 17 years. To use the phrase coined by O'Brien's fans, 'I'm with CoCo!' As jovial and entertaining as Leno may be, I do not welcome his return and here's why:

The most obvious thing that comes to mind is simply the fact that Conan is a better host and comedian than Jay. NBC proposed that the Jay Leno Show be moved to the Tonight Show's 11.30 time slot because Leno wasn't attracting the audience figures and performance ratings that NBC had previously hoped he would. This was the bone of contention between Conan and the television network, as he simply refused to allow the Tonight Show to be moved to a later time slot. His reasons were totally valid. The Tonight show has held the 11:30 time slot for almost 60 years; why change this merely to accommodate hackneyed Leno?

Yes, Leno garnered extreme popularity during his run as the host of the Tonight Show, but then his contract came to an end. My philosophy is simple - quit while you're ahead, but it doesn't look like NBC or Leno share my approach. Who knows, perhaps they are kicking themselves now that they've dug a hole that they can't seem to climb out of. Just a glimpse at Facebook and Twitter reveals hundreds and thousands of Conan fans, aptly being titled 'The Conan Revolution'.

The thing NBC is yet to realise is the fact that Conan supporters are converted for life. Once you come to truly appreciate his off-beat, eccentric humour, you can't go back to ordinary. That's not to say that Jay Leno is necessarily ordinary, but he's just not 'alternative' like O'Brien is.

There are rumours that Fox may sign Conan once he is no longer contractually obliged to NBC and the Tonight Show. Well, my congratulations go out to Fox. Viva the Conan Revolution! I'm definitely with CoCo.

I'm totally with Conan. I've been watching him since "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" began wayyyy back in the day... Leno is tired, and to me, not funny unless you're in your 60's. Sorry to say it Leno, but I hope you fail!
