Conan Statement Throws Down Gauntlet for Conan O'Brien Vs. Jay Leno Decision

NBC Pushed Conan O'Brien into a Corner and He Issued a Statement on Tuesday Announcing Intentions

The Conan O'Brien statement is forcing NBC to choose between Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien. The 'Conan statement', as it is being called, was a press release statement that Conan O'Brien issued on Tuesday morning in response to a request that NBC had issued. NBC wants Conan O'Brien and his Tonight Show to move from 11:35 P.M. to 12:05 A.M. so that they can put Jay Leno into that 11:35 P.M. slot for a half hour show. Well, to nobody's surprise, Conan O'Brien was not happy with the decision by NBC to blind-side him and his staff, and he issued a full statement that he has no intentions of moving his show out of its current time slot.

The 'Conan statement' is going to quickly cause immense chaos for NBC and its late night line-up, but they really have nobody to blame but themselves. The idea of having Jay Leno with his own show at 10:00 P.M. five nights a week just failed miserably, and rather than lose Jay Leno out-right when they cancel his show, they have given him a way to save face by hosting a new show at 11:35 P.M. According to the statement issued by Conan O'Brien, he wants nothing to do with that, and values the contract that he signed with NBC much more than the network apparently. In his statement, Conan O'Brien also talks about preserving The Tonight Show where it should be, and protecting the Late Night show where Jimmy Fallon currently is the host.

The statement by Conan O'Brien has also forced people to start taking sides, with some fans joining Team Jay while others join Team Conan. It seems destined that the network will not be able to move forward with both Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien as part of their staff, and it has divided late night fans that have their favorite between the two comedians. The outpouring of support that Conan O'Brien is receiving on the internet is far greater than that of Jay Leno, and maybe that is a hint to where NBC should be leaning. Either way, with Conan O'Brien's statement that he isn't going anywhere, the ball is now in the NBC court for them to either cancel O'Brien's show and still pay him, or find somewhere else for Leno to go.

I am so sick of Jay Leno he wants to own everything! It is time to pass it on and anyone who has watched Conan over the years knows he is hilarious and capable. It may just take people a while to adjust. It was the same way when Leno took the tonight show from Carson. Nobody liked him at first either. It is time for Leno to take an ego check

I think NBC thought that they would save money. Conan's rating's dropped too fast and could not pull up from tanking.NBC pushed Jay out and are now begging to get him back to the tonight show. Conan is nice but just not funny to anyone over 20.

Conan O'Brien is silly. His show is silly. My wife and I made Leno a aprt of our nighttime routine for 16 years. When O'Brien tool over, we switched to Night Line and Kimmel. Leno is FUNNY. P'brien is a face-making twitching fool.

Conan moved his ENTIRE staff from NY to LA, just to stay in the same time slot?? same show?? I think it's all about that.
I doubt he has a problem who is he following, and I think NBC should move jay to an earlier time slot, like 20:00. His renewed show is really nice, just not prime time.
    NBC is STUPID.

This just big a corporation bulling it's way so it can have it's cake, pie, ice cream and eat it too. It's not Conans fault that Jay sucks at the 10 O'clock slot. If NBC wants to keep Jay o bad then let Conan out of his contract and be done with it. It's that simple and that's the fair thing to do. NBC has turned this into a circus and will end up loosing their audience and sponsors. Corporate NBC is being run by a team of monkey's. Oh sorry- That would be an insult to monkey's around the world.

I hated to see Jay retire, however, he did retire from the tonight show. I say move on Jay. He can do anything he wants. Let Conna have his shot.
