While most would prefer to stay at home to take care of the newborn, some mothers may need to consider beginning working soon after giving birth. Some mothers may have jobs waiting for them to go back to, which they have taken maternity leave from. They may be bound by contract to return to work after their maternity leave has expired, forcing them to continue working even with a newborn baby. Other mothers were largely or solely reliant on their own incomes before giving birth, and now that the baby has arrived, financial necessity may be forcing them to return to work. They are caught between the need to provide for their families, and the need to take care of their newborn child.
Before deciding to return to work, you have to ask yourself if there is no other way to provide for your family financially without having to return to work yourself. Your baby requires your love and attention the most during this period of his or her development, and depriving him or her of your time and attention during this period would likely be detrimental to the development of your mother and child relationship with him or her. If you have a spouse who can support you, discuss how you both can make financial arrangements for you to stay at home to take care of the child. If your spouse is not financially able to support your family, then you have to decide how provide care for your baby while you are away at work.
You may consider enlisting your family for help. Ask relatives, such as your sisters or aunts, or best of all, the child's grandmother. If they are not available, you can ask the neighbors whom you trust, or employ a babysitter that you find reliable. Last of all, you can employ the services of a day care center within your vicinity. Some day care centers offer educational facilities that can to boost your child's intellectual development. However, day care centers might prove to be pricey, and would be detrimental to your efforts to provide for your family financially in that it adds to your financial burden. Choose carefully to suit your budget.
Another alternative to working a regular job would be working at home. There are many mothers who work from home with jobs such as telemarketing and freelance writing. More and more companies are outsourcing data entry and call operating jobs to stay at home mothers, allowing them to stay at home and take care of their children while working at the same time. These jobs are flexible and provide a modest income for mothers who need the money, but are unable to leave home.
If you decided to work after all, consider working from home as an option. Remember that your baby needs you the most during his or her infancy, and that is the most valuable time that you can spend with him or her. Value and treasure your time with your newborn, for it only comes by once.
