Concert Review: Hiromi

Bridget Ilene Delaney
Piano concerts may seem like boring events because all you do is sit and listen to music being played on a piano. However, performer, Hiromi Uehara changes that.

My sister, Briana Delaney, had bought season tickets for the Banners Series, but she did not attend because she was sick.

The tickets for Hiromi for the Banners Series were only $20. Tickets for Hiromi concerts usually cost from $80 to $150.

However, if you enjoy piano concerts, this is definitely a concert to see. More than listening to somebody who is great at playing the piano happens.

Hiromi mixes jazz, rock, classical, and any other types of music that give her passion. She has a wild style of playing the piano. Some of it is obviously masterful playing. However, she has unique talent.

Part of the fun is listening to her music and figuring out the classical piece she has combined with her improvisation. Another part of the fun is watching her play. There's the basic playing a piano like any virtuoso on the piano. However, she also has some interesting techniques. If she is given a baby grand to play, there are songs that she plays by starting the hammers in the piano to hit the strings and then she plays the piano normally.

However, another part of the fun is watching her play with pure joy and energy.

If you have the money and enjoy piano concerts, seeing Hiromi in concert is worth it. However, it is not worth straining to make the money. Videos of her performances can be found on YouTube. Enjoy them there if you cannot afford going to a concert.

However, make sure you watch her as you will not want to miss her unique style of playing the piano. There may never be another pianist like her.
