You have various choices when it comes to the material that your septic tank is made from. Two of the most common are plastic and concrete. Concrete septic tank offers various advantages and disadvantages. This article will discuss some of them.

Size

One of the first advantages of concrete septic tanks is their size. These tanks can be constructed much larger than their plastic counterparts. Therefore, they are capable of holding larger levels of septic effluent.

Weight

Another advantage of concrete septic tanks is their weight. They much heavier than tanks made from plastic. This increased weight keeps the tanks from floating due to heavy rainfall or ground movement. You may experience this problem with plastic designs.

Law

In some states, it is against the law to have a septic tank that is made from plastic or fiberglass. You won't have this problem with concrete septic tanks. They are legal to use in every state.

Durability

You will also like the fact that durability is another advantage. Concrete is a very durable material, so the tanks will last a very long time.

Installation

While the weight of concrete septic tanks can be beneficial, it can also be a detriment. Since they're so heavy, they're difficult to install and likely will require the use of a crane. Plastic and fiberglass tanks are much lighter, so they'll be easier to install.

Leakage

Another disadvantage of concrete septic tanks is that they may be susceptible to leaks. Although concrete is a very durable material, it may develop cracks over time for various reasons. This can cause the tank to start leaking.

These are some of the advantage and disadvantage of concrete septic tanks. They can be constructed much larger, so they can hold much more effluent. They're also legal to use in every state. However, concrete septic tanks are much more difficult to install and may develop cracks and leaks over time.
