First of all, condos are relatively newer than hotels. That's not to say that they are better necessarily. However, condos are usually more expensive than hotels, and oftentimes offer more amenities and conveniences than hotels. However, sometimes condos can be the cheaper way to travel. If you travel a lot, then it might benefit you to purchase a condo timeshare which gives you points that you can use every year to stay in your designated group's condos. That way your travel is already paid for. You just spend your points on your condo and only have to come up with the money for your food, transportation, and entertainment expenses. Yet, on the other hand, if you only travel maybe once a year and not very extensively, you might be better off to just stay in a hotel. However, the key with either one of these is to book ahead early to get cheaper room rates, either in dollars or points, whichever you're using.
Next, all condos have kitchens, whereas hotels do not. Some hotels have kitchenettes, but very few have the extended kitchens that condos do. Some people prefer to eat all meals out while on vacation, whereas others would rather cook some it to save money. If you're one of those who would prefer to cook a few meals, then a condo is probably for you. Also, condos come with up to three bedrooms, whereas hotels are usually just one efficiency room. So condos are more ideal if you're going to go on a trip with several people or families. That way you can each have your own closed room rather than two beds in one room, which can sometimes be awkward. In addition, most condos always have a spa and/or Jacuzzi tubs. Hotels usually have pools. However, not all of them have Jacuzzis or spas.
Those are the major differences between condos and hotels. They are both good places to stay while on vacation, but whichever one you prefer all depends upon your personal preference and how much you actually travel. Everybody's travel needs differ, but knowing the difference between condos and hotels can help you decide which one is better for you to stay in while you travel.
