Confessions of Convenience Store Torture Victim : Part 1

A Register Jockey Telling the World of His Hell; His Job

TJ Frech
All jobs suck. There isn't anyone in the world who will tell you differently. If you have a job, and look somewhere in the fine print, you will see a warning that tells you, "Hey, this job sucks. But its better than most other jobs."

The best part of any job is getting paid. And most times, the pay is enough to make you tolerate the job. Few and far between, the job is so terrible that the pay isn't even worth your time being there.

This is not my job. My name is TJ, and I work at a convenience store as a shift-supervisor. These are my observations.

I began working for a certain un-named Pennsylvania chain convenience store when I was 18. Now, I'm 23. And, I'm still working the same job. I've had a few part time jobs alongside, as well as earned a degree, but I'm still trapped in this hell that I unknowingly got myself into 5 years ago.

When I first applied for the job, I felt as if it were going to be easy. All I had to do was serve customers and keep them happy. Along with the usual administrative duties like cleaning and whatnot.

And for the most part, I was correct. But then came the other factor: Customers.

Through the years, I've figured out that for every nice, polite customer there are approximately 15 who are ignorant and think that the cashier is probably the 2nd dumbest person on Earth.

However, the same can be said for co-workers. There are some that will work their little asses off to get things done and help out, then there are the ones who don't want to be bothered by the thoughts that you have some kind of pride in your job.

This little rant is basically an exclamation of people involved with convenience stores. And how most of them are sad people, who feel like they need make everyone around them feel basically the same as them.

And I'm not ready to lie down and go to sleep.
