Confessions of a DDR Player

From DDR Naysayer to DDR Player

Video games have been a part of my life for as long as I an remember. I have seen video game systems come and go as concepts evolve along with technology. From my first Atari 2600 to my newly purchased Nintendo Wii, I am a self described video game fanatic. I subscribe to several gaming magazines and always keep up with all the latest video game and video game system releases. On any given weekend, you can find me and my family heavily engaged in a Halo 2 or Guitar 2 battle.

Looking at our video game library is like taking a look at the video game hall of fame! The video game titles that we have managed to collect include iconic video games such as Super Mario Brothers to newer releases such as Destroy All Humans 2. Although I am highly proud of my video game collection, I am always seeking new video gaming experiences.

Until recently a major video game title was missing form our video game library. I am sad to admit that we did not own any titles of the intensely popular Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) Series. I had consciously resisted the idea of participating in or owning any DDR titles. I am not a shy person by nature and I do enjoy dancing. I didn't understand how methodically stepping on arrows could be any fun.

I had often seen people spending their time on DDR while visiting arcades. I would shake my head while watching another player succumb to the increasingly intricate footwork of the video game. Many people recommended DDR game titles to me including my husband and brother.

After purchasing and falling in love with Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero 2, I decided to finally give DDR a chance. How bad could it be? After so many years of resistance, I purchased 2 dance pads and DDR Max. I reluctantly endured the DDR training tutorials. There were some many things to get used to including the song selection as well as the step patterns.

I am proud to report that I am well on my way to DDR mastery. I have since unlocked each of the 65 DDR Max tracks and have passed each with great scores. No, I am not a DDR superstar who can complete each track without a glance at the step patterns! I am however, a reformed DDR naysayer who has seen the light and accepted a new video game challenge.

My video game library has been deeply enriched by the DDR series. I am extremely proud to report that my video game library now includes 4 DDR titles. My husband and I play DDR every day to maintain and sharpen our dance skills. Now people shake their heads at us while we enthusiastically compete at DDR in the arcade!

I highly recommend the DDR series.
