Celebrating Your Child's Confirmation with Thanks

Cyndee Kromminga
As your son or daughter prepares for their confirmation day, you are probably realizing there are many people you are grateful for and would like to show appreciation to for the many years of support. There are most likely sponsors, pastors, teachers, family and many friends that played a role in your child's spiritual journey. The easiest way to express your gratitude is by offering thoughtful favors with words of thanks on your child's confirmation day.

The following are a few ideas for making your own confirmation favors. If you can't find something that is just right for your child's confirmation day, maybe there is something here that will help spark your imagination. Keeping with the theme of growing in Christ's love, these favor ideas use seeds and flowers as a symbol faith.

Seed Packet Favors-

Purchase inexpensive flower seeds and glue a silk flower to one of the corners. Print out your child's name, date of confirmation and special Bible verse on card stock tags. Punch two holes at the top of the tag and two holes at the top the seed packet. Place the tag on the back of the seed packet and attach it by threading ribbon through the holes.

Sunflower Seed Favor Pots-

Purchase 2 1/4" clay flowerpots. Print out your child's name, date of confirmation and special Bible verse on card stock tags. Punch a hole in the top of the tag. Cut a 9 inch circle from tulle fabric and a 12 inch length of 1/4 inch wide ribbon. Thread the tag on the ribbon. Place edible sunflower seeds in the center of the tulle circle. Gather the edges of the circle making a little pouch and tie it closed with the 12 inch length of ribbon. Complete the look by gluing a silk sunflower to the rim of the clay flowerpot.

Garden Shovel Favor and Seed Packet-

Miniature garden shovels can be purchased very inexpensively at your local dollar store. Using a paint pen, write your child's name the date of confirmation and special Bible verse on the blade of the shovel. If you are handy with a paint brush, you can also paint small flowers around your words. Attach a packet of seeds to the shovel using ribbon.

Ink Pen Posy Favors-

Remove the cap from a ball point pen and discard it. Cut a silk flower stem approximately 3 inches long. Place the stem along the shaft of the pen with the flower on the end of the pen. Wrap floral tape around the pen and flower stem ending just about the pen point. Again, make a tag and tie to the pen.

I don't have to worry about this for a few years yet. These are great ideas for both confirmation and first communions.
