Conflict: Denied Ops Review (PS3)

S.R.
Conflict: Denied Ops is a first person shooter video game released on Playstation 3 developed by Pivotal Games. Is the game really pivotal? It has stiff competition, as the Playstation 3 has a legion of first person shooters. Let's take a look at this game up close.

Story : Whatever the story is in this game, I didn't really pay attention. Nothing about it really grabbed me. You're a cop or a military person or something and you have to kick some butt. That's about all that needs to be known about this story.

Graphics : The graphics in this game are mediocre at best. And that's me being generous. They aren't horrible and are fairly appropriate for what came a year ago, but presently there's other games on the system that have much better to offer graphically. The fire in this game is quite laughable compared to the fire in other games, and that's not me being nitpicky. There were no graphical errors when I played, but there was still a lot to be desired.

Sound : The music is ambient and passable, the sound effects are decent, but the voice acting is not very good. Often times it's mixed far below the volume of other things, so you can't even hear it. On top of that it just sounds very wooden and doesn't fit well at all. Nothing sound wise is horrible, but nothing is certainly great either.

Game play: The controls in this game are what you'd expect, and it plays like every other first person shooter ever made. They're sensitive and responsive enough, but there's still something missing here and it might just be the fun factor. There are some really strong positives to this game, as there's two main characters who play completely differently. This a really nice element and makes this game very fun to play with a partner.

In fact, the partner aspect of this game is so cool that it nearly saves all the other elements of this game. It's very fun and is an absolute blast to play with a friend in person. The difficulty of the game isn't very high, but it makes for a leisurely enjoyable game to play through. The enemies aren't very smart and often are just waiting for you to kill them. Overall, you really need to play this game with a friend to enjoy it. I found the single player mode to be quite dull.

Re playability : If you have a friend to play with, this game is extremely re playable. Especially so if you play in person. If you don't, I can't recommend getting this game in the first place.

Overall : 6/10 if you play alone 7/10 if you play with a friend. A distinctly average game with a great co-operation mode.
