Congress Passes 'Protect Our Children Act'

New Law Targets Pedophiles & Child Sex Industry

Gary 'The G-Man' Toms
I posted an article on AC about a month ago, "Pedophiles, I'm Coming After You", where I lambasted members of the Congress and Senate over the fact that they were dragging their heels when dealing with the pedophile epidemic in this country. I also noted that a bill to deal with this problem had been languishing on Capitol Hill for years because of the endless bitching that was taking place between both political parties. Three weeks after the article was published, I received an email from one of my sources indicating that California's Junior Senator, Barbara Boxer, had the article. In addition, the person said they were very surprised that I didn't get an email response from Boxer, which led me to believe the senator read it. If she did read it and chose not to respond, I would understand totally. I was pretty hard on the weasels of Washington.

At any rate, I am thrilled to inform you all that S. 1738, the Protect Our Children Act, is officially the law of the land! This was confirmed in an email sent to the person that forwarded the article to Senator Boxer. The email stated the following:

"Because you have written to me in support of S.1738, the PROTECT Our Children Act of 2008 (formally called the Combating Child Exploitation Act), I wanted to share some good news with you about this landmark legislation to prevent child exploitation.

I am very pleased to inform you that Congress has passed S.1738, and it was signed into law on October 13, 2008.

As I noted in my previous letter to you, I believe there is no greater obligation than the safety and well being of our children, and that is why I proudly signed on as an original co-sponsor of this bill.

As you know, this legislation requires the Attorney General to create and implement a National Strategy for Child Exploitation Prevention and Interdiction and establish a central federal Internet task force. It also authorizes more than $320 million for grant programs to ensure state and local task forces have consistent and adequate resources to improve computer forensic labs, and fund additional federal agents within the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Customs and Border Protection, and the U.S. Postal Service to focus exclusively on child exploitation.

Rest assured, I will continue working to ensure law enforcement has the resources it needs to keep our children safe. Please do not hesitate to contact me again about this or any other issue."

United States Senator

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not dumb enough to actually believe I pissed off Boxer and her colleagues to the point that they decided to act. That would be completely foolish on my part. I mean, come on! I'm just The G-Man, right?

It's good to know that the law was passed. That makes me feel so much better. But I still forwarded your other article. I think people with kids should know just how depraved those sickos have gotten.

Perhaps Boxer would have responded to you if you personally sent her an email. I usually get an automated response from Congress people, telling me how busy they are, blah, blah, blah. I have gotten a more personal response from Boxer.

OK maybe you didn't singlehandedly cause this wonderful change, but...you were the voice of many and the voices of many have been heard!
