The secret trip was headed by House Minority Leader John Boehner and it was allegedly secret until Congressman Peter Hoekstra told the world about it on Twitter, Cnet reported. Peter Hoekstra's tweet said "Just landed in Baghdad. I believe it may be first time I've had bb service in Iraq. 11 th trip here." A few hours later he tweeted that he had been moved to the "green zone." Currently all of his Twitter tweets are still up. If you would like to follow Peter Hoekstra on Twitter click here.
Peter Hoekstra represents Michigan's 2nd congressional district. He was elected in 1992.
This begs the question, has social networking gone too far? Ashton Kutcher recently took his issues with his neighbors to Twitter and his blog. He also dotes on his beautiful wife, Demi Moore (She twitters too), Barack Obama has a myspace page and a Twitter account. Unfortunately, Obama does not Twitter much anymore. It may be he has an important job to take care of. MC Hammer is a frequent twitter.
Stars often take to their blogs as a way to put an end to rumors. Mischa Barton told the world she is not a lesbian on her blog, after pictures surfaced of her kissing another girl. Ashlee Simpson blogged her disgust over the media calling her sister, Jessica Simpson, fat. Rapper 50 Cent told the world all about his beef with Rick Ross on his blog and Kanye West frequently blogs his feelings.
Using Twitter can be a fun way to keep up with your friends, make new friends, promote your latest article or just be a voyeur into people's lives. It's free to sign up and you never know what or who you may find on Twitter. I Twitter if you need a new "friend" at http://twitter.com/darlingnikki08.
It is understandable that celebrities feel the need to use social networking sites to keep the world informed. Should a United States Congressman be using his Blackberry to tell the world about his trip to Iraq? It makes for an interesting story but, probably the best move you can make as a Congressman.
