Connected to the Computer

Jill P. Viers
I wrote this poem a few weeks ago when I was bored at work. I realized I was kind of in a daze, not paying attention to anything, until I starting thinking about how I was connected to the computer.

Lettered keys clicking beneath my fingers

Staring blankly back at me

Lines and dots and shapes to see

With the backspace key, my mistakes no longer linger

The screen lights up with bright white and font colors

It glows brightly in my face

Reading from left to right and top to bottom

I make sure the document has enough white space

Gliding the mouse around haphazardly

In seemingly random and endless circles

Clicking and rolling the wheel

To the spot where I need to end up

Neat poem. Any of us who spend a lot of time in front the screen can appreciate "feeling a bit out of it" and still trying to complete our work.
