Connected to the One

Robin Jessie-Green
Let no man put marriage asunder

Did you ever consider that what we did was forced

And they are the others?

I can't help but wonder

If God meant for us to be

Let no woman put us under

Perhaps we missed the symbol, the mark

Thinking with practicality instead of our hearts

A decade later and it's still the same

The feelings lie deep and unchanged

The reconnect was amazing

No harping on the disconnect and who's to blame

Is it true? Do you believe?

That I was meant for you and you were intended for me?

The love is different and you don't know why

Too happy to laugh, too sad to cry

No words have been created to accurately express

Just the quickstep in my heart and the shallowness of my breath

Or is that yours?

Take it easy

That's another thing-- it's so easy

Which makes it scary

Having no one of which to compare

Makes it harder to label

Let's stop playing

And lay the cards on the table

You are my soul mate.

I wonder how many times and how many lives

we've had to go through

Repeating this ritual that leads you back to me

And me back to you

I've been true to you from way back when

Where it was that our love has yet to begin

The end? There is none.

Because when we pass

Our spirits will remain connected to the one.
