Connecticut State Police's motto, known as "Underage = Under Arrest," will help target those who continue to get alcohol illegally that are underage by arresting them. The State Police will also try to help more than 7,000 licensed retailers in the state by trying to make it easier for them to determine if a customer is using their real identification so only people over the legal drinking age will be sold liquor.
With this new campaign, besides continuous announcements that the police will continue to display through billboards, commercials, and other advertisements, they will give retailers a new device that will help to verify the validity of Connecticut State driver's licenses since there seems to be an increasing number of fake id's drifting around. These verifiers, which will be distributed to retailers, local, state, and university police departments, were funded by Heineken USA. Heineken will also fun the placement and development of new and continual public service announcements targeting underage drinking.
How will this new device work? It is actually a type of lens that is simply placed over the license. If the license is real, data will be revealed that you can not see without the lens. The catch is that if you put this lens over the license and you do not see any data, the license is fake. Fake licenses do not have this special effect that real ones do. This will helps identify real and fraudulent id's when young customers try and buy liquor.
"The Connecticut Department of Public Safety and the state, local and university police are all aware that there is a great deal of pressure of students to obtain and consume alcohol before they are legally able. Our Troopers and law enforcement partners will take an active role in reducing underage drinking among youth and college students," said Commissioner John A. Danaher III. "The Connecticut State Police, along with retailers, are on the front line in the fight against false identification. We thank Heineken USA, Dichello Distributing and Hartford Distributors for their continued support in this effort."
Connecticut has been a leading state in cracking down in underage drinking for quite some time now. They have done numerous stings working with state and local police, cracking down on liquor retailers that continue to serve to minors even though it is illegal.
