Connecting a DSL-502T Router to Multiple Computers

GFCosmo
The D-Link DSL-502T is a network router with a built-in DSL modem designed for use by small businesses and home users. The router will only require one Internet connection for all computers connected to the router, instead of one connection for every computer on the network. However, before the DSL-502T can be used with two or more computer, it will need to be configured.

Step 1:

Take the first Ethernet cable and insert it into the "Internet" port of the router and plug the other end of the cable into the Ethernet port of the first computer. Plug the router into a power outer and turn the device on.

Step 2:

Log onto the computer's web browser. Type "Http://" followed by the IP address of the router into the URL search bar. The IP address of the router can either be found on the device somewhere (typically on the back or underside), or on a white card which came with the packaging of the device. Hit the "Enter" key once the address has been typed. This will bring up the router setup menu.

Step 3:

Type "admin" for both the username and password. This is the default settings for both. A new settings page will appear. There is no need to change any of the current information, so click "Save." This will close out and complete the DSL-502T router configuration. Plug the final Ethernet cable into port "2" of the router and attach the other end into the second computer's Ethernet Port.

Step 4:

Click the "Start" button on the desktop, than select "Control Panel." Once the Control Panel loads open up the "Network Configurations" Icon. A new window will showcase all the available Internet connections the computer can use to access the web. Select the DSL-502T as the device you use to connect to the Internet (you will need to do this with both computers in order for the Internet to connect to both computers).

Step 5:

Log onto your Internet Service Provider's (AT&T, Comcast, etc.) site to configure the router. This specific site will be listed in your user manual.

Step 6:

Select the "ISP Connection" tab. Click "Dynamic IP Address" as your Internet connection. Click "Apply" and "Continue." You will need to unplug the router and power it down. Leave it powered off for about thirty seconds, than power the router back on. You will now be able to connect to the Internet.

The DSL502T does not have two ethernet ports. It has one plus a USB port.
