Conquering Your Marijuana Addiction

Kevin Smith
Marijuana is one of the most commonly used drugs among people all over the world. Some people use it socially and others are addicted to it. Most people who are addicted have no desire to quit, but those of us who do have the desire to quit can. We just have to be willing to face the challenges that come with it. The principle thing when it comes to getting rid of any type of bad habit is being able to get through the craving stages.

Overcoming your craving to want to smoke some weed is the hardest part about quitting. What really occurs is that our subconscious mind is trying to tell us that we must have it in order to feel normal. The truth is that marijuana is not as hard of a habit to quit as cigarettes as well as many other drugs. So if you really want to quit, start telling yourself out loud, that you do not need it to feel normal. Most marijuana smokers can't handle the energy levels that they experience when they are not under its influence.

The two main withdrawal symptoms people experience when they try to quit smoking marijuana, if any, are anxiety and insomnia. So if you are going to quit, make sure it's on a day or you don't have to go in to work or school the next day. Chances are that you will not get very much sleep that night. Marijuana is a drug that brings you down, so when you're used to having it, but don't, your energy levels seem a lot higher than usual. This is where the anxiety comes in. This is probably harder to deal with than the insomnia because this is the reason why most marijuana smokers continue to smoke it in the first place. It calms us down, when we are feeling anxious. We get tons of energy, which causes us to feel extra bored. The best thing to do it is try to work this energy off doing something recreational.

If you are able to exercise your anxiety off, you have a great advantage over other people who are trying to quit smoking marijuana. Exercising helps a person sleep regularly. So exercising as an alternative actually kills two birds with one stone. Those who do not exercise will probably find it hard to sleep for the first day or so after quitting. The easiest way to get through the insomnia is to do something productive that you are interested in doing. I love to write, so whenever I find it hard to sleep, I get out my notepad and my pen and start writing. Usually when I do this, I end up falling asleep in the process. Do whatever it is that you enjoy doing. If that means surfing the internet all-night, then surf the internet all night. Just make sure that you remember that the craving is all in your head and that you do not need to smoke marijuana to make you feel normal or happy.
