Consequences of Falsely Accusing Someone of Sexual Assault

Accusations of sexual assault are very serious and should never be taken lightly. The problem is that far to many people use accusations of sexual assault for their own gain. In other words, many people have been known to fling false accusations of sexual assault at someone to "get even" for some wrong they feel they have been done. There are serious consequences to false accusations of sexual assault for both the person being accused and the accuser. Before you falsely accuse someone of sexually assaulting you, you should consider these consequences strongly.

Consequences of False Sexual Assault Accusations:

The Accused

The person who is falsely accused of sexual assault may well never recover from the serious damage that you do to their reputation. Even when the accusations are proven false, people often have the thought of the accusation in the back of their minds. That means that the falsely accused person will have lifetime repercussions because of a lie. No matter what a person has done in their lives, they should never have to deal with being falsely accused of sexual assault.

There are further consequences for the person that you falsely accuse as well. For instance, that person will likely have to pay for a lawyer which is very expensive. They will probably miss work and in some cases lose their jobs over something that isn't true. They will then have to spend a lot of time in the court room. After all is said and done, the falsely accused person could end up going to jail if the jurors believe that the case is true.

The Accuser

When someone accuses someone else falsely of sexual assault, it is usually the result of a relationship that hasn't worked out. People do crazy things when they feel that kind of hurt and sometimes accuse the other person falsely because they want retribution. What ends up happening is a long cycle of lies that will eventually catch up to the person who has lied about the sexual assault. The consequences of this can be anything from broken friendships and other relationships to being arrested for the false accusations.

When people find out that you have lied about a sexual assault, it isn't likely that they will believe you about anything again. If you lie about something that horrible, you would lie about almost anything else. People don't want to be around others who are prone to lying in such a destructive manner. You could possibly lose everyone you care about because of your need to even the score. Let's be honest, falsely accusing someone of a sexual assault goes far beyond making the score even.

If you are caught lying about a false accusation, you could be charged with the crime of filing a false complaint. If that happens, the consequences could be very severe. For instance, you could end up with hefty fines for the false report. You could also end up spending a little bit of time in jail. That isn't the result you were looking for, but that is exactly what you could end up with. It isn't worth it.

False accusations destroy lives on a very deep level. The person falsely accused will go through the rest of his/her life being treated, by some, as though they actually had committed the crime. They could end up losing family and friends who believe the accusation as well. Falsely accusing someone of a sexual assault ruins your life as well. Even if you aren't caught immediately, the truth will surface at some point. That is when you will pay the full price for what you have done. Reconsider any thoughts that you may have of falsely accusing anyone of the horrific crime of sexual assault.
