Conservative Classifieds: Ronald Reagan Lives on at New Gipperslist.Com

'Gippergirls' Have Launched a New Craigslist-like Site That's All Business and No Porn

The buzz on the Web today is about a brand new Harry Potter movie and a new Craiglist-style website named for an old-time film star and President of the United States - Ronald Reagan. Both are all about values and being your own best resource. Gipperslist.com, a classifieds website in the style of Craigslist but said to be easier to use and without "offensive categories", it's on the radar and rising quickly, thanks to a launch on Fox News today.

Conservative talk show host Sean Hannity mentioned gipperslist.com shortly after the site went on-line last month according to "The Activist Next Door", followed by a launch on "Fox and Friends" today, a month later. So far their site has been standing up to onslaught of visitors. Funded by contributions, merchandise such as bumper stickers, and longer-run and featured ads, the site is simple and its message is simple: conservatives now have a place online to do business together.

Without the anonymity and diverse topic options that have gained Craigslist notoriety and unwanted legal attention, Gipperslist.com is hoping to keep to business and keep it clean and as spam-free as possible. The Internet has thrived on a liberal attitude, but just as some see the tide in politics turning from extremes, sites like Gipperslist.com are finding their audience is glad to have an online home that fits their values.

Contacting the site's owners means emailing the 'gippergirls', which heralds the fact that conservatives are not fitting the stereotype of 'old white men.' In fact, nothing on the site seems to connect with the Republican Party, and the site's Frequently Asked Questions indicate that for the site's founders, 'conservative' is an economic philosophy of self-reliance.

Craigslist may not openly support 'liberal' values to those who visit and browse, but the amount of attention that it receives for its "anything (legal) goes" approach, especially in the area of sexuality, shows one reason that a conservative alternative has been created. A values-based approach on Gipperslist.com sets the tone for users, creating a community for those who don't feel a need to explore their dark side (in public) or wait for others' outrage to set limits for them.

In their message on freerepublic.com, founders Heather Kappes and Mary Corbett gave the message they planned to broadcast on Fox News this morning: 'Don't feed the hand that bites you. Buy conservative.' In a nutshell, they say their site is "Similar to Craigslist, minus the hookers." They have created a website to put their words into action, and to support small businesses which they believe, rather than big government, is the backbone of the United States of America.

  • Gipperslist.com claims to be a cleaned-up and improved, conservative Craigslist alternative
  • Conservative values include supporting small business and community and individual self-reliance
  • Gipperslist.com ads are free and easy to place, but include only business-related headings.
Women-founded Gipperslist.com is like "Craigslist without the hookers", but other types of local businesses are their biggest target users.

Good to see the republicans have created hobbies for themselves because their party is in the crapper.
