Conservative Republicans Hope to Rally Base; Rush Limbaugh, CPAC, TCOT, All Take Aim at "Pork and Taxes"
A call to action over pork and high taxes went out through e-mail and text messaging over the weekend by author and conservative grass-roots organizer, Michael Patrick Leahy, in an attempt to capitalize on the momentum gained by last week's inaugural Tea Party demonstrations across America. Organizers are now calling for more cities and longer demonstrations to be held on Tax Day, April 15th, promoting what they call 'Nationwide Tax Day Tea Party Street Demonstrations'.
Leahy is a project organizer for TCOT, or The best Conservatives on Twitter. Twitter is a social web interface where members interact with others using bursts of 140 characters or less. Social organizers and, evidenced by the number of heads down and thumbs texting during President Obama's last address to Congress, lawmakers are finding these social web markets the perfect conduit to reach targeted populations with their message.
One challenge for the Tea Party organizers and fiscal conservatives alike is to get the average American taxpayer to come to grips with the sheer magnitude of over a trillion dollars of debt.
Here are some One Trillion Dollar points to consider while you absorb the idea of the United States having a projected deficit for 2009 of $1.75 trillion. The deficit for 2008 was only $435 billion. In the next three years, the government will need to borrow $3.6 trillion:
If you spent $1 million a day every day since Jesus was born, you would still be only slightly more than three-quarters of the way to spending $1 trillion.
Earth's home galaxy, the Milky Way, is estimated to contain about 200 billion stars. So, if each star cost $1, $1 trillion would buy five Milky Way galaxies full of stars.
A stack of one trillion $1 bills would reach nearly 68,000 miles into the sky; that's about a third of the way from the Earth to the moon.
The proposed themes of the Tax Day Tea Party street demonstrations have been narrowed, possibly in an attempt to focus the energy of a very eclectic group of protesters, to the simplified messages of "Repeal the Pork", and "Cut Taxes". These themes could also be an attempt to broaden the appeal of what organizers call a non-partisan effort. The Tea Party events last week were supported largely by Republican and Independent voters, both claiming social and fiscal conservatism.
Last week's Tea Party protest in Fayetteville, NC saw signs and early American revolutionary flags that promoted a sense of patriotic nostalgia that resonated with the middle to late middle aged white participants who reported that they have been left out of much of the social debate for the past 30 years. Social changes have occurred from the courtroom to the classroom, with blacks and Hispanics, and now sexual orientation in the forefront of the arguments that led to those changes. With whites in America rapidly losing their majority status, the Tea Party organizers are going to have to stay focused to keep their supporters on message and not let any racist, bigoted, or just plain angry voices become detractors.

Post a CommentRush Limbaugh is a Neo-Conservative and should be avoided like the plague. Difference between a neocon and a Liberal is the difference between a Communist and Socialist, method of getting there. Communist does it at the end of gun barrell and a socilaist likes to lube the opening real well then break it off.
