Conservatives Vs. Liberals: Six Opposing Core Beliefs

garyganu
Most of my long and passionate debates with liberals usually wind up at a stand-off after we have both reduced a complicated topic down to its basic core. At this point, further discussion would be useless, we must "agree to disagree" because we are both steadfast in our core beliefs.

As a result of many discussions with liberals, I have identified the following six opposing core beliefs.

1) Liberals tend to trust government more than business.
Conservatives tend to trust business more than government.

2) Liberals believe in collectivism.
Conservatives believe in individualism.

3) Liberals are intolerant of certain beliefs.
Conservatives are judgmental of certain behaviors.

4) Liberals tend to believe in moral relativism.
Conservatives tend to believe in moral absolutes.

5) Liberals believe that society can, and must be, perfected.
Conservatives believe that there will always be a struggle between "good and evil".

6) Liberals tend to be guided more by their emotions.
Conservatives tend to be guided more by reason.

First to Garyganu, I believe that there may be more than just six core beliefs and that it is more connected with a world view than simple categories. Secondly to Thomas, Liberal arguments are completely based on emotion and little logical reasoning. They just claim that they use reason verbally but do not do so in practice. Lastly, Conservatrives take issue with the border problem because of strategic weaknesses with having a open border that damages national security. That is not an emotional argument nor is it reliant on one. The xenophobic argument is just the liberals' attempt to use emotion in a vain attempt to win an argument that requires logic. Don't be fooled by such a cheap liberal trick. They have used emotion before to hide the fact that they really don't know what they are talking about.

Thomas, Liberals often use moral relativism to justify bizarre behaviors, yet they are intolerant of those with different beliefs. They show intolerance and hostility toward those opposed to the gay agenda and comprehensive immigration reform.

I'm a liberal, and have several critiques of the above article.

    1) I'm a firm believer in economics, and can say I trust business more than government. However government is necessary for certain services (such as firefighting) that businesses do not provide.

    2) I am not a collectivist. I do believe the government as a whole can assist those in need, but not in a version of collectivism.

    3) This directly contrasts with your 4th point. Moral relativism implies a belief in cultural relativism, which means accepting all beliefs, even ones that contrast with your own.

    6) Conservatism is inherently based on emotion. Liberalism promotes a progressive view of society using reason for the betterment of all. Immigration policy is influenced by emotional tendencies towards xenophobia. Conservatives don't like to think with reason as that is against the core of their beliefs.
