Consider the Flowers

"Life is like a Garden: Sometimes You Have to Spread Some Manure, and Get Things All Mixed Up, to Have the Prettiest Flowers." (Al Calvert, March 15, 2006)

Melissa Lawson
Sometimes, things don't seem
To be going well, at all.
At times, it seems
You're just up against a wall.
Everything is going wrong
And you're going under.
Everything you say and do
Is one big mixed-up blunder.
Everyone's against you,
And your friends have turned away.
You wonder how you'll make it
Through another messed-up day.

Life is full of trials;
Tests that tear you down.
Forces tear your heart and soul,
Tribulations abound.
But, if you think of what you're missing,
You'll miss out on what you have.
To truly appreciate the good in Life,
You must endure the bad.
Don't let Life's problems get you down;
Stop to smell the roses, first.
Think of the pretty flower, that
Grows best when things seem worst.

Consider the pretty flowers
In the garden in your yard.
Have they yet complained to you
That Life is just too hard?
You spread knee-deep manure,
Then mix it all around.
For a space in time,
No worse place is found.
But, from all this mixed-up mess,
Wading in manure,
Grow the most beautiful flowers,
As long as they endure.
