According to onsite information, this program is "intended to prepare students to obtain entry-level jobs in labs performing forensic analyses, or to provide a good foundation for advanced degree work in areas such as chemistry, biochemistry, forensics, molecular or cell biology, or related technology fields." This comes is a welcome addition for those interested in becoming the next real-life "Gil Grissom" or "Sara Siddle" of CSI fame. Though the class work is intense at between 55.5 and 59.5 hours of required coursework, the student will be exposed to courses not only in Chemistry and Biology but Criminal Justice as well. This all adds up to a well rounded education and the beginning of a bright future in Forensic Science. Working closely with law enforcement or other departments in an internship is another option of this program and one that is strongly encouraged for those who wish to apply for an entry level position in forensic work after graduation. Also offered is a minor in forensic science for those in law enforcement or other areas where forensic science knowledge would be a definite asset to ones educational background.
Located just twelve short miles from the state capital of Des Moines, Iowa, Indianola is a somewhat small town with a population of 13,000, which respects and supports the college and its students as well. This college is small with approximately 1500 full-time students and 500 part-time students. With a professor for approximately every 15 students, the student population receives great student to instructor instruction. Students will readily admit the college is small enough for great instruction, yet large enough to offer a diverse range of courses and a feeling of community as well.
